Ramadan; month of the Qur'an

More than halfway done with Ramadan- time flies!

کیا بات ہے، رمضان اتنی جلدی گزر گیا. زندگی بھی ایسے ہی گزر جائے گی. پلک جھپک کر.

Ramadan is a month of The Qur'an, as well as: spirituality, patience, meditation, worship, hope, prayer, generosity and self-control.

Ramadan/Ramzan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting (sawm), prayer, reflection and community. A commemoration of Muhammad's first revelation, the annual observance of Ramadan is regarded as one of the Five Pillars of Islam and lasts twenty-nine to thirty days, from one sighting of the crescent moon to the next.

A crescent moon can be seen over palm trees at Manama, marking the beginning of the Islamic month of Ramadan in Bahrain.

Fasting from sunrise to sunset is fard (obligatory) for all adult Muslims who are not acutely or chronically ill, travelling, elderly, breastfeeding, diabetic, or menstruating. The predawn meal is referred to as suhur, and the nightly feast that breaks the fast is called iftar.

I really like this song. Kind of apt in this Covid lockdown time.

The spiritual rewards (thawab/sawab) of fasting are believed to be multiplied during Ramadan. Accordingly, Muslims refrain not only from food and drink, but also tobacco products, sexual relations, and sinful behaviour, devoting themselves instead to salat (prayer) and recitation of the Quran.

And another song by the same singer as above, Maher Zain (of Swedish-Lebanese origin), based on the month of Ramadan.

And finally, coming soon is Laylat al-Qadr (from Arabic: لیلة القدر‎), known as the Night of Decree, Night of Power, Night of Value, Night of Destiny, or Night of Measures; in Islamic belief, the night when the Quran was first sent down from Heaven to the world and also the night when the first verses of the Quran were revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

According to many Muslim sources, it falls in one of the odd-numbered nights of the last ten days of Ramadan. Since that time, Muslims have regarded these last ten nights of Ramadan as being especially blessed.

Muslims believe that the Night of Qadr comes with blessings and mercy of God in abundance, sins are forgiven, supplications are accepted, and that the annual decree is revealed to the angels who carry it out according to God's plan.

The swans from Kensington Gardens say goodbye! :)

Slyther-in

I guess it's confirmed. The last house I expected to be in- Slytherin- yet here I am. In the last 4 years, I've taken this Quiz about 5 times, and 3 out of 5 times I got Slytherin; the other 2 times, Ravenclaw. Fine. I accept my fate. I strangely prefer Slytherin to Ravenclaw ...oops! Also, finally, a blast from the past,  13 years ago : 😆 ENJOY:) For HP Fans who are looking for comfort, check out J.K Rowling's new initiative, Harry Potter at Home  :  https://www.wizardingworld.com

So Far, So Good (some work progress and some memories)

My studio space at the Sir John Cass School of Art, Architecture and Design in Aldgate, London. Before I left for Pakistan amidst the Corona virus crisis, I had been exploring laser cutting at The Cass . It had been an interesting technical and physical endeavour for me to prepare and procure different kinds of paper for this purpose, learning from Joel how to make an Adobe Illustrator file out of the linear pen illustrations that I had drawn, and ensuring that the illustrations were made in a way that would be conducive to this process. Unfortunately, the first time I tried this, I put in many hours to get the prerequisites in place for my slot in the laser cutting room, but failed after an entire day of hard work because the laser cutting machine did not recognise the vectorised drawing. Finally, with Joel's help, I managed the correct kind of digital file-making, and was able to print a particular illustration on a number of different materials (foam board, wrappi...
