My Childhood

My childhood was a safe, comfortable, sheltered one. I had my doll-house with my barbies and would dress them up, play make-believe and read books. My parents loved and supported myself and my brother. We are very lucky. This beautiful, detailed paper-cut by an unknown artist reminds me of the innocence of youth, and my childhood.

DEPTH OF VISION

A beautiful, layered paper-cut that speaks volumes to me .  It draws me in, makes me travel across weeds and jellyfish and mermaids to get to the ship that is slowly losing its battle with the waves, and realising its fate as a shipwreck in the deep recesses of the ocean floor .

AGRABAH?? Let's bomb it!!

I made a piece in response to a piece of news I came across on social media which stated that people from USA's Republican Party, in a recent poll, voted that 'Agrabah' should be bombed. Little did they know they were referring to a fictional city from Aladdin.  To me, this revealed so much about anti-Muslim sentiment and ignorance. And so, I placed together Agrabah's palace, the Masjid-e-Nabwi(Prophet's Mosque) and the Faisal Mosque (from the Saudi Riyal and Pakistani Rupee respectively) as a comment on how the world often perceives Muslim nations as ' all the same '. (Below) Where they live , gouache on paper, 22x30 inches, 2016

Ramadan; month of the Qur'an

More than halfway done with Ramadan - time flies! کیا بات ہے، رمضان اتنی جلدی گزر گیا. زندگی بھی ایسے ہی گزر جائے گی. پلک جھپک کر. Ramadan is a month of The Qur'an , as well as:  spirituality , patience , meditation , worship , hope , prayer , generosity and self - control . Ramadan/Ramzan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting (sawm), prayer, reflection and community. A commemoration of Muhammad's first revelation, the annual observance of Ramadan is regarded as one of the Five Pillars of Islam and lasts twenty-nine to thirty days, from one sighting of the crescent moon to the next. A crescent moon can be seen over palm trees at Manama, marking the beginning of the Islamic month of Ramadan in Bahrain. Fasting from sunrise to sunset is fard (obligatory) for all adult Muslims who are not acutely or chronically ill, travelling, elderly, breastfeeding, diabetic, or menstruating. The pred...

Spiderman, tu ne churaya mere dil ka chain

How awesome is Spiderman? I'm not much of a Superhero person, but I've always had a soft corner for this guy, and since Tom Holland began playing the part, I've begun loving him more. He is PERFECT for the role. But what makes the situation incredible, interesting and awful at the same time is this Indian version of Spiderman, with actors dancing in B-grade costumes in a cringe-worthy love song set in an open field (almost all Indian/Bollywood movies have song-and-dance numbers). The main line of the song is:  Spiderman, Spiderman, tu ne churaya mere dil ka chain (Spiderman, you have stolen my heart's peace) Apparently, India also has a comic strip version of Spiderman who wears a dhoti (Indian Punjabi attire in the form of a cloth tied around the waist). Lol. Spiderman has truly become global! Here is one of the funniest videos I have ever seen. Tom Holland a.k.a Spiderman being made to repeat the lines of said song, and, wait for it......dance to it at the end!!😂 ...

Art and Value 2.0: Dean's Seminar in Madrid!

Photograph taken by Caleb Phillips Once Upon A Time, In A World Far Far Away... 28 February- 1 March 2020:   Wow! This seems like a lifetime away, even though this was not much more than two months ago.  At this point, travel was okay, standing right next to someone was okay, having no masks or gloves on was okay, going out for an indefinite period of time was okay, nightlife and art excursions were okay. I was sele cted as one of 12 people from my accommodation in London- Goodenough College - to be a part of the Dean's Seminar 2.0 in the exciting city of Madrid, Spain .  Our Dean, Alan McCormack and Dario Corsetti were leading and facilitating us, while the seminars were undertaken by Professor Rodrigo Olivares-Caminal, Professor of Banking and Finance Law at Queen Mary University, London, and seasoned art collector. As the only fine artist on this seminar, I was excited to be part of a group of people who were from such varied fields, bu...

Slyther-in

I guess it's confirmed. The last house I expected to be in- Slytherin- yet here I am. In the last 4 years, I've taken this Quiz about 5 times, and 3 out of 5 times I got Slytherin; the other 2 times, Ravenclaw. Fine. I accept my fate. I strangely prefer Slytherin to Ravenclaw ...oops! Also, finally, a blast from the past,  13 years ago : 😆 ENJOY:) For HP Fans who are looking for comfort, check out J.K Rowling's new initiative, Harry Potter at Home  :  https://www.wizardingworld.com
